Charlottetown to hold its first ever Edcamp on April 2nd

Charlottetown will hold its first ever Edcamp on April 2nd, from 9.00 am to 4pm.  This historic, precedent setting #edcampcharlottetown will take place at UPEI.  An invitation to the entire PEI community is made to join us for this day of exchange, dialogue, networking and reflection.  The umbrella themes of the day are Access & Inclusion.

What is an Edcamp? These cross-sector free gatherings have been popping up around the globe and charming people from all sorts of professional sectors thanks to their free-flowing, organic and democratic freshness.  They focus on broad education themes and seek to trigger cross-community dialogues by bringing people together, beyond their usual ‘silo’, in spontaneous and innovative exchanges.

This first Charlottetown Edcamp hopes to attract education professionals, from both the K-12 and post-secondary sector, but also researchers, advocates, members of the care professionals, the industry and policy makers – without forgetting of course students and parents. There are no pre-arranged speakers in the Edcamp format, nor are session themes selected ahead of time.  All occurs dynamically and democratically, over morning coffee, depending on the interests and concerns expressed by the participants.  We hope to see conversations emerge around the themes of social inclusion, diversity, the widening of access to learning through technology, inclusion through lifelong learning, inclusive design and UDL.

Edcamps traditionally integrate a rich and innovative use of mobile technology and social media. The conversations occurring at such events are tightly interwoven with Twitter backchannel activity.  This allows participants from afar to join Edcamps, actively and dynamically, wherever they may be based.  #edcampcharlottetown will therefore offer PEI unprecedented visibility well beyond our shores, around the topics of Access & Inclusion.

Coffee, breakfast and lunch will be provided and there will be many participant prizes offered by our sponsors. The event is organized and sponsored by Graduate Studies at the Faculty of Education of UPEI.

Come trigger new dialogues! Invite your own networks!  Enjoy the cross-pollination of ideas! Make this #edcampcharlottetown the memorable first of many such future events.  Join this global conversation!
